Why Cold Water and Microfibre Towels are Your Best Friend

You’ve probably heard a lot of people rave about the importance of using microfibre towels and limiting heat on your curls.

This isn’t just something people say for fun, it really is an important element to maintaining your curls. Frizz is regularly a concern for people with curly hair and finding a way to minimise it is always a goal.

We all love a warm hot shower however this heat can cause serious damage to your curls. Unfortunately hot water (and even heat styling) can cause breakage, frizz and a loss of moisture to your curls which in turn can result in your hair losing its strength and health.

Through cold water your hair cuticles and pores in your scalp close meaning it allows your curls to seal in moisture. After you wash your hair and you need to rinse out your shampoo and conditioner, it is a great idea to use cold water rather than hot so your hair has the opportunity to seal in the nutrients from your conditioner and limit damage.

After washing our hair we commonly reach for the bath towel to dry our hair, however this to can cause unnecessary damage. Microfibre towels not only absorb excess water from curls, it will limit the amount of frizz your hair has because the microfibre towel will cause less friction and ultimately prevent breakage and brittle hair.

Both cold water and microfibre towels should become a staple in your curly hair wash day routine. Although they may seem like little adjustments to your routine, they can make a big difference and help your curls out by keeping their texture and ensuring the long term health of your hair.
